God called William Robinson Haynes, Bill, home on July 2, 2022. Bill was a 58-year Concord resident, most recently of Newbury Court. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Beatrice (Bea). They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on July 14th.
Bill was born on December 13, 1931, at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. He attended Cambridge public schools and graduated from Somerville High School in 1949, where he made lifelong friends, many which were maintained to the current day. After 12 years of night school while supporting a family Bill graduated from Boston University with a degree in finance/accounting. By profession he headed up finance and accounting departments in the manufacturing and wholesale industries. He spent the last 25 years of his career at Dunkin Donuts Northeast Distribution Center.
Bill was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing many sports. He continued to play tennis and golf into his retirement. Bill delighted in being outdoors in his yard, playing catch with his children and grandchildren and hiking the mountains of New Hampshire at family reunions. Bill was a lifelong New England sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox. As a boy he scaled the fence at Fenway Park to watch the games from the top of what is now the green monster.
Bill was a devoted and active member of Trinitarian Congregational Church, Concord. He served many terms as a Deacon, was on the Property Committee and was always a willing assistant to move furniture for the Antiques Fair, be part of the stewardship campaigns and clean up the grounds. Bill served on the Board of the Concord Council of Aging Friends for many years and was a volunteer tax preparer. Bill was a loyal and dedicated friend and neighbor. He was the first to offer to plow out a yard after a snowstorm, assist in any neighborhood activities and join in a game. In later years, he and Bea enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe with their friends. For their 50th wedding anniversary they treated family to a European cruise which continues to produce fond memories.
Bill cherished his family and their times together. There was nothing he enjoyed more than cooking hamburgers on the grill for his family and playing croquet. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his cherished daughters, Nancy and Linda Haynes of Concord. Two treasured grandchildren, Giles Haynes, his wife Emily and Bill’s two great grandchildren, Lennon Jane and Lawson Brooks, whom he had an opportunity to meet shortly before his death, all of Austin, Texas. His granddaughter Mary Pettingell and her partner Zachary Wells of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves his sister in laws, Weez Haynes of Walnut Creek, CA and Ellen Mercer of Sunapee, NH, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Nathaniel and Doris Haynes, his brother Edward Haynes and brother-in-law Charles Mercer.
